Katie & Liam ♡ Dronfield Hall Barn Wedding, Derbyshire

A snippet of Katie & Liam’s gorgeous Dronfield Hall Barn wedding.

“I found Sasha whilst looking at dogs in weddings on Instagram and instantly knew she was the photographer for us! She was such a positive and fun person to have around on our day and she made us both feel so relaxed and comfortable. I absolutely love our photos. They capture the day beautifully and I didn’t even know most of them were being taken! I’d highly recommend Sasha to anyone who is looking for natural, relaxed and dreamy photographs.”

○ What’s your love story?

Liam and I met in 2009 on an evening out whilst we were all home from uni for the summer. I was friends with his younger brother (and our best man), Joe, at school but Liam was in the year above and I’d not had much opportunity to chat to him before. We spent the whole night dancing together. On the walk home, he lent me his shoes as my feet were killing me. He walked all the way back in socks and carried my heels for me.

Fast forward eight years to 2017 and we have bought a house together in Sheffield and got our dog, Loki. Whilst out for a walk in the Peak District one day, Liam got down on one knee in front of my favourite view and asked me to marry him. It was a perfect moment. He’d even sneaked a bottle of champagne into the backpack! On the drive home, he played a mix CD of all of our favourite songs that he’d put together specially. He then whisked me off to a gorgeous hotel for the evening where we celebrated with a meal with friends. He’s VERY good at surprises.

○ Why did you choose Dronfield Hall Barn?

We chose Dronfield Hall Barn as we knew we wanted somewhere close to home with an intimate and laid back atmosphere. The Barn is really flexible and allows you to put your own stamp on the look and feel of your day.

○ What is the style/theme/vibe of your wedding?

We’d always talked about getting married in the south of France but we had a change of heart as we wanted to make sure everyone we really cared about could be there. There’s lots of lavender in our flowers and decorations as a nod to this. We’ve tried to create a laid back feeling to our day and the main thing for us is that everyone has fun. We’re having a table tennis table to encourage some friendly competition and my dad has helped me to make a backdrop for a photobooth.

○ What music are you walking down the aisle to / first dance and why?

I’m walking down the aisle to ‘Everything I Do’ by Bryan Adams, played on the harp. My mum used to sing it to me when I was little and ‘Robin Hood Prince of Thieves’ is one of my all time favourite films. I’ve always loved the wedding scene at the end, so it seemed fitting!

We’re signing the register to ‘Married Life’ from the ‘Up’ as that’s one of our favourite films and we’re existing to ‘You’re My Best Friend’ by ‘Queen’. I don’t know what our first dance song is as Liam is choosing it as a surprise! I have some idea of what he’ll go for. He’s quite sentimental so I don’t think he’ll stitch me up too badly!

○ What are you most looking forward to on the day?

I genuinely can’t wait to walk down the aisle. I know I’ll be so nervous but I’m looking forward to being in a room full of my favourite people, all happy to be there for us.

○ Describe your ideal wedding day in 3 words:

Prosecco, laughter, dancing.

○ Why do you like natural wedding photography?

I love how natural photography really captures the mood of the day. I’m not a fan of stuffy group shots, we’re keeping these to an absolute minimum on our day. Why pose for pictures when you could be drinking Prosecco and chatting to loved ones? The photos I will treasure of our day are the ones that show real emotions and connections between people.

○ Any advice for future brides & grooms planning their day?

We had a two year engagement and although it’s gone by super quickly, we’ve tried to be as organised as possible and spread the planning our over this time so that payments are spread out too. I’d also say that booking your photographer should be a priority. It was one of the first decisions we made after getting engaged. Sasha has been amazing through the entire process. I can’t recommend her highly enough.
