Emma & Sam ♡ The West Mill Wedding, Darley Abbey

A snippet of Emma & Sam’s beautiful The West Mill wedding at Darley Abbey.

Emma & Sam got married on a blustery December day at Derby’s The West Mill. More specifically, The West Mill is situated at Darley Abbey Mills. This stunning, rustic venue is a Grade 1 listed building, and has 4 floors of relaxing space and an outdoor courtyard running alongside the River Derwent. Emma & Sam chose this spot while Googling for dog friendly venues in the Yorkshire area. Actually, their little fur-baby Winnie came along for the entire day, and had the best time being fussed over by everyone.

The day began in The West Mill’s bridal suite, as Emma got ready with her mum and bridesmaids. As vendors for the day arrived and started getting to work on the flowers, cake and things, Emma couldn’t resist bobbing out every so often to take a peek at everything coming together. She got ready into a beautiful white, sparkly number, complimented by glittery heels. Her makeup was very natural, as was her wedding ponytail up do – so cute!

The ceremony took place on the top floor, which is where Sam had been waiting for his bride-to-be. It was a beautiful ceremony. Two readings were given by friends, before the couple exchanged personal vows to one-another. The newlyweds walked hand-in-hand back down the aisle together, as guests threw rainbow confetti all over them.

Everyone soon flooded back down to the ground floor to enjoy champers and canopies. This December wedding had such a warm & Christmas-y feel to it, with a plethora of fairy lights and Christmas trees dotted around. We took a bunch of group photos back up on the top floor, before the newlyweds & I braved the outside cold for some lovely couple photos. Emma & Sam were pros at this really, having already had an engagement shoot and even another wedding day the day before (click here if you’re confused, 😝).

The wedding breakfast room on the third floor had been decorated and looked gorgeous. Think festive burgundies, navies and golds and lots of flowers! Everyone enjoyed a hot, hearty meal before the speeches came along. The rest of the evening was filled with so much fun, warmth and laughter, and wrapped up nicely their perfect day.
