Ant & Dawn ♡ The Crab & Lobster Wedding, Thirsk

A snippet of Ant & Dawn’s stunning The Crab & Lobster wedding in Thirsk.

“Sasha, imagine the smile on my face on receiving the cutest little package containing our amazing photos. Thank you so much for sharing our day. You are all we dreamt of and more when choosing a photographer. We are spoilt for choice for photos to display around the house. Many guests commented on what a lovely lady you are with a natural talent for putting people at ease. I particularly liked the cat photos.”

After a sweet 11 years together and 2 year engagement, Ant & Dawn finally decided to tie the proverbial knot at Thirsk’s most unusual wedding venue – The Crab & Lobster. Now at first glance, this venue, while certainly beautiful, does look quite unassuming. Only upon closer inspection will you find it’s weird & wonderful quirks. From an 11ft Sasquatch at the top of the stairs, to bathtubs filled with plants in the garden, and an old school scuba diver (astronaut?) flying on the ceiling of the wedding breakfast room. Plus much more. The venue is honestly crackers, but I love it. Who doesn’t enjoy an alternative wedding venue? The happy couple chose The Crab & Lobster because it is “quirky” and has “beautiful rooms & gardens.”

The morning began with bridal prep’, as Dawn, her daughter and bridal party all got made up together in one of the venue’s rooms. Ant arrived at the venue shortly after to prepare for the day too. It was such a nice and relaxing June morning, and the sunny skies were perfect for the conservatory ceremony and garden drinks later on.

Dawn chose a beautiful, strapless, long, white gown and had her blonde locks gently curled and pinned off of her face. Ant wore a lovely grey three-piece, topping off the look with a baby pink bow tie – something that the rest of the male counterparts in the wedding party were wearing, and even the dog statues at the front of the building! 🎀

Dawn walked into the ceremony room to the sound of the harpist plucking away and playing a gorgeous rendition of the wedding march. The ceremony was short but sweet and touching. After the signing of the register and all the formal bits & bobs, Dawn & Ant made their way through the ceremony room again, this time hand-in-hand as husband & wife. Their guests showering them with confetti along the way.

It was super duper hot inside the conservatory, and although everyone had kindly been provided with fans, it was nice to then have a few drinks in the garden with a sweet, summer breeze floating by. After a handful of group photos in the shade, myself, Ant & Dawn went off for a walk in the beautiful grounds for some photos. There was so much clean, green space and bright light flooding through the tree leaves, we were spoilt for choice.

The wedding breakfast and speeches took place at the bottom end of the venue, down a few flights of stairs. We bumped into the resident cat along the way – a cheerful and confident fluffy brown tom. If you ever go to The Crab & Lobster and see him, be sure to give him a stroke, he’s super friendly! The evening room had been decorated in a more “simple and natural” theme, and the wedding cake was just STUNNING. Tall white tiers, decorated with pale pink roses and a ‘Finally’ topper 😝.

After the speeches, guests relaxed outside in the patio area while staff turned the room around ready for the evening party. And party they did. Dawn even swapped out her shoes for a more comfortable pair of white customised Converse – you just know when someone does this that they’re sure to be in for a night of some SERIOUS dancing 💃. An absolutely fun and lovely day to be a part of – what a treat!

Notes from the happy couple:

What are you most looking forward to on the day?
Seeing all our family together.

Why do you like natural wedding photography?
It captures the moment and is less staged.
