Destination Wedding: 4 Wonderful Reasons To Say ‘I Do’ Abroad ♡

There is something undeniably exciting and romantic about getting married somewhere far from home. Maybe its saying your vows overlooking the ocean, celebrating with your closest loved ones in an italian villa, or maybe its wrapping up warmly and saying ‘I do’ surrounded by snow filled mountains… a destination wedding gives you the chance to make your wedding day part of a much larger experience. One filled with beautiful surroundings, quality time with people you love, and memories you and your family will hold onto for the rest of your lives. If the idea of a traditional wedding doesn’t quite feel like you, getting married abroad could be the perfect alternative.

Here are my reasons you should ditch the traditional wedding and go with a destination wedding instead…

1. Start your honeymoon right away!

One of the nicest things about having a destination wedding is that you’re already somewhere you’ve been dreaming of visiting. So, why rush home? Once the wedding celebrations are over and your guests have headed home, you can stay for a few extra days and turn your trip into a honeymoon too.

Instead of havbing to plan a trip for straight after your wedding, you can simply slow down and enjoy where you are. Spend a few days exploring local restaurants, visiting places that have been on your bucket list forever, or do absolutely nothing apart from catch a great tan and have one too many piña colada’s.

It also means that your honeymoon can feel like a natural continuation of the celebrations. You’ve gone from travelling as an engaged couple, to getting married somewhere incredibly special, and then waking up as newlyweds with a whole new place to explore.

2. Keep your wedding more intimate

If the idea of a huge guest list feels overwhelming, a destination wedding can naturally create a smaller, more intimate celebration without having to explain why you want to keep it small. Travelling abroad means that some guests may not be able to attend, allowing you to focus on celebrating with the people who are genuinely the very closest to you. Honestly, there can be something really lovely about that. Instead of spending your wedding day trying to make your way around a crowded room full of people, you can slow down, enjoy the company of your guests and relax.

For some, having a smaller guest list also means they can put way more thought into the actual experience they’re creating rather than worrying about how to accomodate 100 people. It doesn’t have to mean sacrificing the celebration, either. A smaller destination wedding can still have all the things you love about a wedding like beautiful flowers, incredible food, plenty of dancing and, of course, lots of photographs. It’s just simply on a more intimate scale, surrounded by the people who truly matter most to you.

3. Turn your wedding into a once in a lifetime experience

One of the most special things about a destination wedding is that you’re not just experiencing somewhere new with your partner, but you also get to experience it with your loved ones too. I mean, how often are people able to travel abroad for a wedding? For many, it can be a once in a lifetime experience.

Rather than just inviting your loved ones to attend a ceremony and party, imagine inviting them to a beach on the other side of the world. Truly unforgettable. Years down the line, you might not remember every little detail of your wedding, but you will definitley remember the adventure of a new country with your friends and family.

And finally…

4. Your wedding photography will double up as part of your holiday album!

Your destination isn’t just the place your wedding is held, its also the setting of an awesome holiday. Whether you choose to elope, bring just the closest family, or go the whole nine yards, a destination wedding gives you the chance to double up on the experience.

Whether you choose a mountain, a beach or a rainforest, retelling the story of your wedding day while looking through albums filled to the brim of not only the wedding day itself, but photos you take on the days leading up to and the days following, can be a great way to reminisce… because after all, you might not remember much of it anyway! 😉

So, is a destination wedding something you would consider?

Your wedding is all about you as a couple and what you enjoy. For couples who love to travel, it would be an ideal way to spend your special day. Obviously, destination weddings aren’t the right fit for everyone, and thats okay!

Whether you get married in a church, on a beach, or in the middle of the desert, whatever makes you feel happiest on your big day is exactly what you should do.

You can refer to the UK Government website in regards to the legalities of getting married abroad, though, i may do a seperate blog all about that in the future!

Thanks so much for joining me here on the blog, see you in the next one!
