○ What’s your love story?
Met at University of Sheffield, a few months before we finished our undergrad of same degree in Physical Geography (Bsc). Alexi trained up as a teacher doing a PGDE at uni and I stayed on to do a Master’s in Glaciology. Just as we were finishing our further education we moved into a flat together in Kelham Island and stayed for 5 years through first jobs, promotions, family events, holidays and the pandemic but sadly no pets.
We finally were lucky enough to buy our first house together (proper fixer upper) which took a year and 4 months. 5 months before we moved in in May 2022, on New year’s Eve Alexi popped the question on a snowy Bole Hill watching all the fireworks go off and celebrated in a cute fairy light lit tent.
○ Why did you choose Bakewell Parish All Saints Church & Haddon Grove Farm Cottages as your wedding venue?
Always imagined getting married in a church and we love the outdoors so Bakewell felt like the perfect place. A beautiful church on the hilltop overlooking the town and wonderful scenery. The reception venue just 5 mins down the road in the beautiful countryside for our perfect rustic relaxed wedding.
○ What is the style/theme/vibe of your wedding?
Relaxed, fun, rustic and natural.
○ What music are you walking down the aisle to / first dance and why?
Walking down the aisle to how long will I love you, a song from one of Alexis favourite films ‘About time’
And our first dance song is L.O.V.E by Frank Sinatra. Although a classic first dance song, it’s true to us as a couple as we’ve always loved jazz and blues, especially the rat pack. Have lots of records on vinyl that we love to listen to frequently.
○ What are you most looking forward to on the day?
Seeing all our friends and family in one place and getting to celebrate a lovely day with them.
○ Describe your ideal wedding day in 3 words:
Relaxed, fun and merry.
○ Why do you like natural wedding photography?
Neither of us are really selfie takers or posers for the camera, find it awkward and would rather be enjoying the moments which can be captured candidly (although we do want to try some formal photos with family because it’s nice to have group photos).
○ Any advice for future brides & grooms planning their day?
Do what you want to do, don’t listen to the politics of family and wedding etiquette – this wedding is to celebrate you two and I believe family and friends who truly love and care about you, will show up and enjoy the day no matter to celebrate you.
Also planning a big wedding is stressful. So do contemplate spending a little extra on a wedding planner if you’re going for a big wedding.
