“On the day itself, Sasha really put us at ease, capturing moments I didn’t even remember at the time but are so lovely to look back on. She’s great with little ones too, getting some amazing shots of our nephew and nieces. We received our photos after coming back from honeymoon and are absolutely delighted with them; they really tell the story of our day and we couldn’t be happier.”
○ What’s your love story?
It’s not very romantic to begin with; we both swiped right! We met on 8th April 2016. Emma was on a coffee date with another guy when Sam asked what she was doing that evening. She swiftly downed her latte, made her excuses and left (I still feel a bit bad about that) We met at the Stag’s Head on Psalter Lane and as Emma attempted to keep up with Sam round for round, ended up pretty drunk. It was clear from the off that we had something special and that spring was spent getting to know each other, lots of sunny walks and gallivanting around Sheffield and beyond. The first year of our relationship threw a fair few challenges our way including health problems, bereavements and job difficulties. This only strengthened our relationship and we moved in together in 2017. We enjoyed lots of trips away in 2017 and 2018 to celebrate our 30th birthdays and on Sam’s 31st birthday on 23rd November 2018, he proposed to Emma overlooking the city. Nothing says true love like the Cholera Monument! It was a monumental day, not only because it was the first time in their relationship Emma had been speechless and squeaked out a ‘yes!’
○ Why did you choose Manor Lodge as your wedding venue?
We’d been to a lot of weddings in the year we got engaged so were lucky in that we had a clear idea of what we did and didn’t want. We were keen to get married in Sheffield as it’s our home and we love the city- it’s Sam’s hometown and Emma has lived here for 15 years. After viewing several venues, we soon realised a relaxed and laidback day was of paramount importance. We didn’t want a ‘package’ wedding so wanted a venue which would allow us to put our own stamp on the day. When we visited Sheffield Manor Lodge on an unseasonably warm February day, we loved how outdoor the venue was given we both love the outdoors and the nods to local history. Since the pandemic, our wedding has been moved from Manor Lodge to Manor Oaks House but we still have the beautiful rustic and wildflower meadows to enjoy on our day. All our suppliers are local Sheffield businesses and have been incredibly supportive in the adjustments and changes we’ve had to make due to the pandemic.
○ What is the style/theme/vibe of your wedding?
Laidback, relaxed, a bit rustic and with a touch of seaside charm! Emma is a Geordie from the North-East coast so we wanted to incorporate a bit of her hometown of Whitley Bay into the day.
○ What music are you walking down the aisle to / first dance and why?
Our friend Jack is a singer-songwriter (best known as Kid Conventional) is singing Here Comes The Sun by The Beatles. We feel the lyric ‘it’s been a long, cold, lonely winter’ is particularly apt given what we’ve all been through this last year- our wedding really does feel like a ray of sunshine after a dark time. Our first dance is ‘You Send Me’ by Aretha Franklin. We chose it while dancing round our kitchen which we often do!
○ What are you most looking forward to on the day?
Finally getting married after such a long journey to get here. We postponed our August 2020 wedding to April 2021. After the roadmap was announced, we planned to get married in April with only four guests and were all ready to go ahead when Sheffield City Council cancelled our wedding a week before. We were absolutely heartbroken but it has made us realise the true meaning of the day. While decorations, dresses and details may seem important, getting married and finally being husband and wife is the most important thing. We’d happily say ‘I do’ in a hazmat suit if it meant we could finally be married.
○ Describe your ideal wedding day in 3 words:
No. Covid. Restrictions.
○ Why do you like natural wedding photography?
We aren’t very posed people- we tend to look a bit awkward in photographs and we’re certainly not models! We want to enjoy the day without spending lots of time posing for pictures. We also love the romantic and soft feel of Sasha’s photography and after meeting her, we knew we didn’t want anyone else to capture our day.
○ Any advice for future brides & grooms planning their day?
Don’t get hung up on the little details- no-one except you notices them and the most important thing is getting married. The marriage is far more important than the wedding day!
○ Kind words:
“Sasha has been absolutely amazing before, during and after our wedding. We first met Sasha way back in August 2019 and knew straightaway we wanted her to be at our wedding. Sasha has been so supportive through our many date changes and has gone out of her way to accommodate our wedding. On the day itself, Sasha really put us at ease, capturing moments I didn’t even remember at the time but are so lovely to look back on. She’s great with little ones too, getting some amazing shots of our nephew and nieces. We received our photos after coming back from honeymoon and are absolutely delighted with them; they really tell the story of our day and we couldn’t be happier. Highly recommend Sasha- the perfect wedding photographer!”
