○ Why did you choose Kitano Club Sola as your wedding venue?

For the food and amazing views over Kobe!I especially wanted a space where we could easily mix with our guests, as at the Japanese weddings I’ve been to this is often quite difficult.

○ What did you enjoy most about the day?

The second half on the terrace, having dessert and mingling with everyone. I (Elena) also loved Koichi’s letter to me. That was a surprise! Koichi: Seeing so many of my friends, especially from my childhood, and being able to introduce them to Elena.

○ Any advice on having guests travel overseas for your wedding?

If possible try to make sure that the venue has some staff that speak your guest’s language. We asked a couple of friends to also keep an eye out for my family because Japanese weddings are quite different from what they’re used to. If you’ve got a lot of guests be aware that it’s a lot of work finding accommodation and organising transport, I’d definitely recommend asking for help from friends etc.!

○ Would you recommend tourists visiting Japan to visit Kobe?

It depends what you want to do in Japan, but if you’re into the outdoors then it’s a city squashed between a mountainous national park and the sea, so great for hiking/mountain climbing, camping, marine sports. It’s also much less busy than Kyoto or Osaka so if you want to see more of everyday life in Japan then it’s a good place to people watch, relax, have a coffee or visit a local restaurant/bar.

○ Why do you like natural wedding photography?

We’re both awful at posing for photos and would much rather have photos of us and all our guests enjoying themselves and not worrying about what they look like.

○ Any advice for future brides & grooms planning their day?

Accept all help offered, and don’t compromise on the things that really matter to you.
