Ruby & George ♡ Peak District Proposal Photoshoot
This shoot with Ruby and George was a very special evening. Beautiful light, a stunning location and a very big surprise that went exactly to plan.
We met at Curbar Edge in the Peak District on a warm summer evening – one of those long days where the sun takes its time setting and everything gets bathed in soft golden light. The sky had a dusty pink glow and the whole place felt peaceful and still.
Curbar Edge is a spot I shoot at often, but it never gets old. The views are unreal – you can see right out over the valley with the rocky edges and open skies making it feel like something straight out of a film. Add in some golden hour light and you’re basically set.
Ruby thought we were just doing a regular couples shoot (which she was already excited about), but George had a different plan. He’d gotten in touch before to let me in on the secret: he was going to propose partway through the shoot.
We started off as normal – walking, chatting, stopping here and there for photos as we explored the edge. When we reached the spot we’d agreed on, this perfect little ridge with the light hitting just right, he gave me the signal. I stepped back to give them a bit of space, and sure enough, George dropped to one knee. Ruby’s face said it all: total surprise, then giggles, then tears. She said yes, of course.
From that point on, the whole vibe shifted. They were buzzing. We carried on shooting as the sun dipped lower, but it all felt a lot more relaxed, less posing, more just capturing the real moments between them. There were hugs, happy tears, a bit of dancing on the rocks. It was one of those evenings where you don’t really need to direct much. you just follow along and shoot what’s happening.
It’s always special photographing proposals, but doing it somewhere like Curbar Edge just adds to it. It’s wild, open, and quiet, even in summer. And when the light hits just right, it’s kind of magic.
So, huge congratulations to Ruby and George. And if you’re planning a proposal and want it captured in a way that actually feels natural and true to you, I’m always up for an adventure – especially if it involves golden hour in the Peaks.
